Defects of vision and their correction
See where a short-sighted or long-sighted eye focuses light, and the lens that corrects it.
What to notice
A myopic eye focuses distant objects in front of the retina; a concave lens fixes it. A hypermetropic eye focuses near objects behind the retina; a convex lens fixes it.
Key relation
Myopia: P = −1 / far point (m); Hypermetropia: P = 1/0.25 − 1/near point (m)
Try this
Choose myopia with a far point of 2 m. What power of spectacles is needed?
What you can change
- Eye: choose Normal eye, Myopia (short-sight), Hypermetropia (long-sight)
- Far point (myopia): 0.5 to 5 m
- Near point (hypermetropia): 0.3 to 2 m
- Spectacles: choose Not worn, Corrective lens worn
