Ripple tank: two-source interference
Two dippers make circular waves on water. Watch lines of calm water appear where the waves cancel.
What to notice
The pattern of calm lines (nodal lines) spreads out when the sources are closer or the wavelength is longer.
Key relation
Path difference = nλ → bright ; (n + ½)λ → dark
Try this
Double the source separation. Count the nodal lines.
What you can change
- Source separation d: 0.5 to 3 units
- Wavelength: 0.3 to 1.2 units
- Wave height: 0.05 to 0.3
