Class 11 Zoology simulations · Breathing and Exchange of Gases
Exchange of gases: partial pressures
Follow blood along a pulmonary or tissue capillary and watch O₂ and CO₂ diffuse down their partial-pressure gradients.
What to notice
In the lungs O₂ moves from alveoli (104 mm Hg) into blood (40); CO₂ moves from blood (45) into alveoli (40).
Key relation
Diffusion rate ∝ partial-pressure gradient
Try this
Switch to tissues: in which direction does each gas move now?
What you can change
- Site: choose Alveolus (lungs), Body tissue
- Position along capillary: 0 to 100 %
