Class 10 Zoology simulations · Control and Coordination
Transmission across a chemical synapse
An impulse arrives at the axon terminal: synaptic vesicles release neurotransmitter, which crosses the cleft and binds receptors.
What to notice
Chemical synapses are slower than electrical synapses because the transmitter must diffuse across the cleft.
Key relation
Electrical signal → chemical (neurotransmitter) → electrical signal
Try this
Increase the impulse frequency. How does the number of release cycles per second change?
What you can change
- Impulse frequency: 1 to 10 per s
- Synapse: choose Chemical (with cleft), Electrical (gap junction)
