Kirchhoff’s laws: two-loop circuit
Two cells drive currents through three resistors. Solve the loops and watch each branch current.
What to notice
At the junction the currents in equal the currents out; around each loop the EMFs equal the IR drops.
Key relation
E₁ = I₁R₁ + I₃R₃ ; E₂ = I₂R₂ + I₃R₃ ; I₃ = I₁ + I₂
Try this
Make E₂ much larger than E₁. Does I₁ reverse?
What you can change
- E₁: 1 to 12 V
- E₂: 1 to 12 V
- R₁: 1 to 20 Ω
- R₂: 1 to 20 Ω
- R₃ (shared): 1 to 20 Ω
