Pressure at depth in a tank
Lower a pressure probe into a tank and change the liquid. Find the force on one side wall too.
What to notice
Pressure depends only on depth and density — not on the tank’s shape or the amount of liquid.
Key relation
P = P₀ + ρgh ; F_wall = ½ρgH²W
Try this
Switch to mercury and keep the probe depth fixed.
What you can change
- Liquid: choose Water (1000 kg/m³), Oil (800 kg/m³), Mercury (13 600 kg/m³)
- Liquid depth H: 0.5 to 5 m
- Probe depth (fraction of H): 0 to 1
- Wall width W: 1 to 5 m
