Vernier caliper
Hold a real vernier caliper: drag the sliding jaw on the stage until it touches the object, then read the main and vernier scales.
What to notice
The vernier line that coincides with a main-scale line gives the extra tenths of a millimetre.
Key relation
Reading = MSR + n × LC (LC = 1 MSD − 1 VSD = 0.1 mm) ; corrected = reading − zero error
Try this
Measure the steel ball, then set a zero error of +0.3 mm and apply the correction.
What you can change
- Object to measure: choose No object, Glass marble, Steel ball, Steel cylinder, Wooden block
- Jaw opening (drag on stage): 0 to 120 mm
- Zero error: -0.5 to 0.5 mm
