Class 12 Physics simulations · Electric Charges and Fields
Field of a charged sphere
Compare a conducting shell with a uniformly charged insulating sphere, inside and outside.
What to notice
Outside, both look like a point charge at the centre; inside, the conductor shields completely.
Key relation
Outside: E = kQ/r² ; inside conductor: 0 ; inside insulator: kQr/R³
Try this
Move the probe inside the sphere and switch between the two types.
What you can change
- Sphere: choose Conducting shell, Uniformly charged insulator
- Charge Q: 1 to 50 nC
- Sphere radius R: 2 to 20 cm
- Probe distance r: 0 to 40 cm
