Class 12 Physics simulations · Electric Charges and Fields
Electron beam between deflecting plates
Accelerate electrons, then pass them between charged plates. The beam bends into a parabola and hits the screen.
What to notice
Inside the plates the path is a parabola; after leaving, the electron travels in a straight line.
Key relation
y = V_d L² / (4 d V_a) ; Y = (V_d L / 2dV_a)(L/2 + D)
Try this
Double the accelerating voltage. How does the spot move?
What you can change
- Accelerating voltage: 500 to 5000 V
- Deflecting voltage: 0 to 200 V
- Plate length: 2 to 6 cm
- Plate separation: 0.5 to 2 cm
- Plates to screen: 10 to 30 cm
