Henry’s law: gas dissolved in a liquid
Raise the partial pressure of a gas above water and see how much dissolves.
What to notice
Solubility is proportional to pressure; gases with smaller K_H (like CO₂) dissolve far more. That is why soft drinks are bottled under CO₂ pressure.
Key relation
p = K_H x (x = mole fraction of gas in solution)
Try this
Compare CO₂ and N₂ at 2 bar.
What you can change
- Gas: choose CO₂, O₂, N₂
- Partial pressure: 0.2 to 5 bar
More in Solutions
- Colligative properties: boiling and freezing point
- Osmosis and osmotic pressure
- Raoult’s law: vapour pressure of a mixture
