Self-inductance of a solenoid
Change the turns, size and core of a solenoid and find its inductance and stored energy.
What to notice
Inductance grows with the square of the number of turns; an iron core multiplies it greatly.
Key relation
L = μ₀μᵣN²A / l ; U = ½LI²
Try this
Double the turns, then insert the iron core.
What you can change
- Turns N: 50 to 2000
- Length l: 5 to 50 cm
- Radius r: 0.5 to 5 cm
- Core μᵣ: 1 to 1000
- Current I: 0.1 to 5 A
